Makama John
"As an artist, my vision is to project positivity, beauty, inner expression, and solitude, blending the spiritual with the scientific. My art is profoundly influenced by the cultural richness and knowledge gained from growing up in Northern Nigeria. Through my work, I strive to inspire reflection, connection, and an appreciation for the profound interrelationships that shape our existence."
Makama John is a contemporary artist based in Abuja, Nigeria, whose work explores the intricate connections between humanity and its natural, built, and perceived environments. Though he holds a BS in Accounting, his passion for art led him to fully commit to his creative practice in 2019.
Makama’s signature use of green symbolizes positivity, growth, and the power of experience, while his distinctive dot patterns represent the multitude of human interactions and connections. His work, primarily created with charcoal, acrylic, and oils on canvas and paper, is deeply rooted in research and personal experience. As his practice evolves, he continues to experiment and expand his artistic language, pushing the boundaries of his expression.
