Working primarily in a figurative style, he creates bold, stylized portraits and still lifes that explore the contemporary Black urban experience.

Terence Maluleke is a digital artist and painter whose work reflects the vibrancy and resilience of the township community where he was born and raised - Soweto, South Africa. Working primarily in a figurative style, he creates bold, stylized portraits and still lifes that explore the contemporary Black urban experience. Rather than focusing on individual portraiture, Maluleke embraces the richness and multiplicity of pan-African Black identities, capturing a shared cultural essence in his art.

 

A graduate of The Animation School in Johannesburg, Maluleke is also an accomplished animator, having contributed visual development work for Walt Disney Animation Studios, Sony Pictures Animation, Netflix, and Triggerfish. Beyond his personal practice, he is committed to fostering creativity in his community. In 2022, he co-founded Kasi Sketchbook, a nonprofit initiative that provides drawing clubs for children and young adults in Johannesburg’s townships, nurturing the next generation of artists.
